AM Spices of India serves fresh flavorful vegetarian treats from India that will have you coming back for more!
On a recent Sunday, (little did I realize that it was more than an hour after they had officially closed for the day) I decided to stop into this tiny downtown Albuquerque restaurant. I had passed it on numerous occasions, but on this evening, I was having some nostalgic thoughts about Aloo Paratha, an Indian flatbread stuffed with a spicy potato mix. First, let me say that although the kitchen was officially closed, they were very gracious and accommodating about taking my order. Thank you!
I ordered the Aloo Paratha, an order of Paneer Pakora (wonderful as an appetizer) and an order of Chana Chat, a tasty chickpea dish to go. I planned to take it home in time to catch my favorite television show. I usually reserve Sunday nights for watching British Top Gear (online), a funny British car review show while chowing on take-out. Alas, for the past two weeks Top Gear has been canceled due to a BBC network fallout with its host Jeremy Clarkson. But enough about that. Back to this wonderful food!
I decided to dine in after being given some tasty appetizers to munch on while I waited for my order. That was a good decision. I sampled a number of great dishes that were new to my palette that evening. Ketan, the gracious owner, and host, proudly explained each dish that I sampled. Good Indian vegetarian food has such a wonderful range of spices and flavors that you never miss meat. The vegetables and spices become the star of the meal. This is true of the delectable dishes I enjoyed at AM Spices of India. Perfectly seasoned, with fresh ingredients and that wonderful melange of Indian spices. Don’t ask me what I ate, I was too busy enjoying my meal to remember that sort of detail. I must say that the food and hospitality at AM Spices of India is exceptional.
Whether for lunch or dinner, AM Spices of India makes a very tasty and satisfying meal. They offer a buffet style meal for lunch seven days a week and are open to 11pm on Saturdays. Most of the meals are under $15.00 per person. The daily buffet is a great way to sample the range of vegetarian specialties on the menu. Unless you are having the buffet, all meals are made to order, so expect a 10-15 minute wait depending on your order.
AM Spices of India is ideally located between the Kimo Theatre and the Cinemark 14. It is a tiny restaurant that serves big flavors! So come down, park the car, have a great meal before you see a show or the latest blockbuster. Be sure to put AM Spices of India on your shortlist of good eats!
