The Bible writer Paul makes a wise observation regarding an important lesson he learned in life: “I know how to be low on provisions and how to have an abundance. In everything and in all circumstances I have learned the secret of both how to be full and how to hunger, both how to have an abundance and how to do without.” -Phillipians 4:12
In other words, Paul learned how to be content. When he had plenty, he was not driven to excess, when he had little, he learned how to do without. Paul cultivated contentment. The dictionary defines contentment as “a state of happiness and satisfaction.” In essence, it is the ability to enjoy what we have now, not what we think we should be endlessly striving to attain.
SplurgeFrugal is all about enjoying the indulgences of life that are within our means. The economy ebbs and flows, it gives and it takes away. Yet, many of the greatest pleasures of life can be easily overlooked in the quest to consume. We can enjoy the beauty of life around us without trying to own it all.
