Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Nob Hill

I had noticed the Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers being constructed at 2550 Central Ave SE across from the UNM campus in Nob Hill, Albuquerque for the past two months. Every time I walked by, a large colorful poster featuring a mouth-watering steakburger placed next to a delectable frozen custard sundae would catch my eye. “Don’t, don’t you want me?” It seemed to call out to me in the haunting synthpop voice of the disco era’s one hit wonder Human League. “Well, yea, but when will you be open for business?” I wondered.

The wait finally ended this evening at the “Friends & Family” pre-opening day at Freddy’s. My inquiry as to the opening date led to a free invitation to the pre-opening. Thanks guys! The official opening is on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 (tomorrow).

So, hows the food?

In a word… Great! I had the Original Double Patty Melt combo (with shoestring fries and soda) along with a mini Turtle Sundae. The Patty Melt had swiss cheese that was lightly caramelized around the edges (nice) and flavorful caramelized onions. The rye bread was buttery-toasted with an authentic rye taste. Very satisfying. The fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned. The Turtle Sundae (mini is the perfect size when ordering a full meal) is excellent. If Freddy’s decided to spin-off the frozen custard as a stand-alone franchise it could stand on it own. It is that good!
