Mr. Powdrell’s Barbeque House – A Taste of the Southern Soul in New Mexico.
I take BBQ ribs seriously. A little more than a decade ago, I drove cross-country from New York to Colorado, spending more than three months on the road. In every major city I stopped in, I asked for the best local recommendation for BBQ ribs. I ate a lot of BBQ ribs! My personal favorites remain Gates Ribs in Kansas City, MO, and a little shop named Brothers Ribs in Newark, NJ.
Mr. Powdrell’s Barbeque House in Albuquerque reminds me of some of the best ribs I have had on the road, and I place it on the shortlist of the very best rib ‘shacks’ in Albuquerque. Not that Albuquerque is a BBQ kind of town. There are few places that serve the falling-off-the-bone, slathered in homemade sauce BBQ ribs that I prefer. Mr. Powdrell’s delivers, and the pork and baby back ribs are among my favorites here. This is the southern style BBQ ribs and fixin’s that I love. They leave your fingers stained with spicy BBQ sauce and your belly happy. The fixin’s are quite good too.
If you yearn for a bit of southern style cooking in New Mexico, this is it. Good stuff!
