Today (September 8, 2018) was the perfect day for a hot rod & custom car show! And Cecilia’s Cafe (230 6th St, Albuquerque, 505-243-7070), one of the most popular New Mexican restaurants in downtown Albuquerque was the perfect venue for the Downtown Showdown Rod & Custom Show!

You can count on the Downtown Showdown at Cecilia’s to attract some eye-popping custom cars & trucks that showcase the enduring spirit of Route 66. This is classic American steel chopped, dropped, chromed and sprayed into modern works of art.

Now, there are bigger car shows in Albuquerque, but few can match the style, stance and attitude of the Downtown Showdown at Cecilia’s Cafe!

This is my third year attending this show and I can see how rapidly it is growing in popularity and support. Lots of great cars were there!

Here are some of my favorite photographs from this year’s Downtown Showdown Rod & Custom Show. Enjoy!

The Gambler is a classic red hot rod with lots of chrome in all the right places. Like all of the cars at this show, these are hand-built and customized rods and customs. To show how popular custom car culture is in Albuquerque, there were three other car shows being held in various parts of the city today as well, and two more tomorrow!

The custom cars and hot rods on display ranged from rat rods to carefully restored classics with modern updates. This is classic American iron made into works of rolling art by talented local hobbyists.

Cecilia’s Cafe is located at 230 6th St SW in downtown Albuquerque. By the way, this is one of the best places in Albuquerque for a tasty breakfast burrito or their famous Fireman’s Burrito!
