Aspen gold… It’s what makes the Santa Fe National Forest truly unforgettable come the Autumn season!
The Santa Fe National Forest Scenic Byway starts in the center of historic Santa Fe, New Mexico, winds through the high valley of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and ends in the Santa Fe Ski Area. From late September to early October, this scenic drive provides stunning views of glittering gold aspen trees set against a backdrop of evergreen ponderosa pines.
The Santa Fe National Forest Scenic Byway starts in the downtown Plaza of Santa Fe, guides you past some of the city’s most desirable homes and into the Santa Fe National Forest. The steep, winding mountain road offers many scenic stops, campgrounds and picnic areas along the way. Vista Grande Overlook, near the top of the byway, offers stunning panoramic views of the Rio Grande Valley between the Jemez Mountains to the West and the Sangre de Cristos.
If you plan to visit Albuquerque or Santa Fe in the fall, be sure to add a ride along the Santa Fe National Forest Scenic Byway to your agenda. Although considered off-season this is a great time to be in Santa Fe if you are a nature lover, and is a wonderful day trip from Albuquerque.
